An estimated 15,000 to 20,000 people are killed or maimed by landmines every year, according to the International Campaign to Ban Landmines.

Mae Sot, Tak Province, Thailand – A landmine victim waits for his turn to repair prosthetics at Handicapped International (HI) Prosthetic Device Centre inside the Mae La refugee camp in Mae Sot near the Thai-Myanmar border. More than 140,000 refugees have been living in nine refugee camps scattered along the border in Thailand after the minority ethnic group fled their country in 1995 following a major offensive by the Myanmar government army against the Karen National Union.
